600 x 600mm
Many years ago I was given two large bags of feathers from North Western Queensland, one of which was full of emu feathers.
6 years ago I discovered how truly beautiful these feathers were. Right there and then I decided to place them on Fabriano art paper and frame them in Perspex….
I was excited by the look – no one I knew was using feathers in Perspex….. Creating something new in the art world is a challenge and I felt I had found preserving or recycling beautiful feathers to show many people was exciting.
Here are some emu facts I find very interesting:
- The female emu lays several clutches of eggs in one season – May to June…
- The male incubates the eggs – rarely leaving the nest to eat or drink. After 8 weeks the eggs hatch and the young are reared by the father until they reach full size, aged 6 – 7 months…..
- The emu is the 2nd largest bird by height – 1.9m (6.2ft), they can travel great distances and sprint up to 50K/hour….
- Did you know, given the opportunity emu’s swim!
