The Spotted Nightjars habitat covers most of the Australian mainland.

Nightjars are the smallest Owl-like nocturnal birds, and are almost exclusivity insectivorous.

The adult Spotted Nightjars wing span is 20.5 to 24cm, they also tend to eat while in flight, skimming along the surface of the waterholes.
