FLIGHT OF FEATHERS

Sue has had a lifelong passion for collecting feathers and gives them a new lease of life by turning them in feather art.

That led to placing them into Perspex boxes to show off Australian bird feathers and some Peacock and Guinea Fowl feathers.

Now Sue creates handmade jewel boxes to display these found treasures and unique feathers for others to enjoy.

Many hours are spent sorting, cleaning and arranging feathers and hoping a breeze doesn’t flutter them away!

They are then artistically suspended in all their glory  and ever so patiently arranged to best show their lustre, colour and texture in the most beautiful fashion.

The Perspex boxes are individually handmade by Sue with care and precision to the appropriate size for each creation.

Sue never knows what bird feathers will arrive. Local people have learned that Sue has this wonderful ability to reinvent these natural treasures to be a visual delight for all to enjoy.

FEATHER art

Sometimes they are sent from rural Australia, such as some lovely black cockatoo feathers sent from a young friend living in Charters Towers who knew of Sue’s amazing artwork.  Many just arrive on the doorstep from locals who have found feathers.

An Englishman who once jackarooed in Australia purchased a display of Galah feathers in Perspex as the beautiful soft pink and grey feathers reminded him of living and working in the bush, where flocks of Galahs are in abundance.

Portraits, florals, butterflies, fans and incredible snakes become part of this unique wall art. On the reverse side of the framed feather art is a description outlining the different variety of birds that supply all this beauty. These artworks are ready to hang.

They form a perfect gift to treasure for a lifetime.

“Something nature has given us and that can continue to give us unending enjoyment into the future”
